Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents

A space where a child can be understood, and can work at their own pace.

Child and adolescent psychotherapy is a safe, accepting space to process emotions and difficulties that may be getting in the way of everyday life. I meet children where they are, and work with them at their developmental stage.

Children do not always have words to describe how they feel. Talking, play, art, storytelling and role play can help them make sense of difficult experiences, and find healthier ways of managing emotions, relationships and struggles.

The work is taken at the child’s pace. They lead; I am alongside them, offering an understanding and accepting environment. Over time, therapy can help a child develop emotional awareness, resilience, a sense of self, and tools they can use when they notice familiar patterns in themselves.

How I Connect with Younger Children

Not every child wants to sit and talk, and they do not need to. Alongside talking, I work through play, art, music, drama and sand tray therapy. These are not distractions from the work. For many children they are the work, and they allow something to be expressed that could not yet be put into words.

Working with Neurodiversity

I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent children. My approach is to access their world and to be in that world with them, rather than asking them to meet me in mine. That is often quite different from the rest of their day, which is usually spent adapting to a neurotypical environment.
